Goldenvoice, a subsidiary of AEG, which founded and promoted the Coachella Valley Music and Artist Festival, filed a lawsuit in the California District Court on Tuesday, alleging that a new music festival named Coachella Day One 22 and related to its main competitor Live Nation violated the original festival. On the trademark.

In the complaint, Goldenvoice accused Live Nation of promoting and selling tickets for the new music festival on its Ticketmaster website and mobile app, jointly infringing; the news was first reported by the bulletin board.

However, Goldenvoice’s decision to sue Live Nation rather than the promoter of the festival, the Indian Mission of Twentynine Palms, a Native American tribe exempted from legal proceedings due to sovereign immunity, illustrates the difference between the two Greater and long-term competition. Two companies. Publicly held Live Nation is the world's largest entertainment company, while AEG Presents is privately owned by Phil Anschutz's AEG.

The first Coachella Music Festival was held in Indio, California in 1999. It is held every year until 2019 except in 2000. Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020, it has been postponed many times, but It is planned to be held on two weekends in April next year.

Coachella’s first day 22 is scheduled for December 31st with headline DJ Diesel and veteran Bay Area rapper E-40.

In the complaint, although two separate suspension and termination letters have been received since October, Goldenvoice accused Live Nation of joint infringement. The complaint further pointed out that Ticketmaster, which is wholly-owned by Live Nation, also advertises and sells tickets for other music events held at Coachella Crossing where the new music festival is planned.

Also listed as a defendant in the lawsuit is Bluehost (d/b/a Unified Layer), which is the service provider of Coachellacrossroads.com.

Goldenvoice also asked the court to award damages for infringement and unfair competition, accusing the defendant of promoting "direct competition live music events" and copying the appearance of original festival images.

According to the complaint, Coachella Day One 22 was described as "part of the festival, part of the carnival, and part of the circus" and promoted features such as LED installations, interactive environments, aerial artists, live painters, etc.-all of which are similar to the original Coachella hybrids Echoes live music and art.

Goldenvoice claims that all of these will create "the possibility of consumer confusion and false associations" between unrelated events.

Representatives of Live Nation, Goldenvoice and AEG Presents either declined or did not immediately respond to Variety's request for comment.
