Car manufacturer competition for off-road-oriented vehicles has been getting fierce lately, and now it looks like we may be getting an even more off-road capable Ram 1500 truck. A patent filed by Stellantis with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) was spotted by Car And Driver. Images attached to the document shows what looks like a Ram 1500 Rebel equipped with a bunch of overlanding gear originally seen on the Rebel OTG (Off the Grid) Concept built for the 2019 SEMA Show. This could signal a split of the off-road performance hierarchy at Ram, with the 702 horsepower TRX designated for high-speed Baja duty, and a Rebel OTG that could take the fight to the new Chevrolet Silverado ZR2, which currently serves as a unique offering in the market.

The vehicle in the patent images forgoes the OTG’s Yakima bed rack, collapsible awning, rooftop tent, and bed-mounted slide-out kitchen. However, it does appear to feature the concept truck’s snorkel intake, rear bumper with integrated LED lights, and steel front bumper and bespoke grille. We can even see provisions for a winch and driving lights. It’s hard to say whether this patent signals a new addition to the Ram 1500 lineup, or if it’ll be a unique Mopar trim. We believe it to be the former.

If the patent previews an OTG-inspired Ram 1500 Rebel model, we can expect to find the vehicle equipped with a 10,000-pound Warn winch taken from a Ram HD Power Wagon, LED driving lights, Beadlock-capable wheels, a 2-inch lift, and 35-inch tires. All of which accompany the front and rear bumpers, grille, and snorkel mentioned earlier. Chevy does not offer 35-inch tires, beadlock capable rims, or a snorkel on the ZR2 as of yet. But if Ram does make this an actual thing, it has the ZR2 in its crosshairs. This could in turn suggest that a production Ram OTG could cost as much as $70,000 – as much as an F-150 Raptor – but still below the 702 hp TRX on the price ladder. Chevrolet, as the truck wars go, will fire back with a Silverado ZR2 Bison.
