While Europe is dealing with drought, a Turkish fig exporter has noticed weather conditions in Bursa to be positive for the cultivation of figs since the beginning of the season.

According to Yigit Gokyigit, marketing coordinator for Alanar, it has led to good quality: “The fig season in Turkey has officially started, and we’re at the second week of harvesting the crops. The first trucks have already started arriving at our customers in Europe. In terms of feedback, they’ve let us know they’re very satisfied with the quality of this year’s figs. The most popular Turkish fig is known as Bursa Black, the fruit is grown in Bursa region in the north-western part of Turkey. Since the beginning of the season, weather conditions have been rather positive in Bursa, leading to the good quality we’ve seen this harvest.”

Demand for the Bursa Black figs has been on a solid level. Gokyigit claims demand has been increasing every year, which made the company increase their own production as well.

“Bursa Black, the most famous fig of Turkey, always has demand from numerous markets, including, Europe, Pacific Asia, Middle East and North America and others. Alanar is not just a fig trader, we grow our own figs, as we’ve invested in plantations of over 175 hectares for a while now. The company has increased the volume of fig crops every year from its own orchards.”

“We’re so glad to see that our existing customers all around the world are very happy with the quality of our figs. It’s great to see the increasing demand year after year, meaning the Turkish fig is in a really good position on the market. It remains our goal to establish long-term business partnerships with our clients.” Gokyigit concludes.
