"Irresponsible" highway TV ads banned by ASA | Supplier News

Television advertisements in the highway used car market were banned by the Agency for Advertising Standards (ASA) for allegedly "encouraging dangerous driving behavior."

The TV commercial showed an auto retailer chasing a mobile truck towing a house and a car to illustrate the platform's appeal in attracting auto retailers to bid in transactions that can be done at home.

An ASA compliance rule emphasized that in the advertisement, the chasing car "crossed the lane and overtook each other, and both drivers smiled and looked happy when doing so."

"The advertisement ends with a driver jumping off a driving car and entering the trailer to decouple the house from the trailer," it added.

In response to these allegations, Expressway told ASA that the design of the ad was "fantastic" and "not in the real world."

It said that at the beginning of the advertisement, the man used the highway service to sell his car while taking a bath.

Once he chooses his car, a full-size brick house will appear behind a truck, and the highway brand is driving on an empty highway.

Motorway said these scenes reinforce the view that the advertisement is not set in the real world, and the bathing scenes seen many times emphasize that it is fantasy and takes place in the imagination of men.

It added that the driving style depicted in the ad was “very well-designed” and showed that the driver was always in full control.

Despite Expressway’s comments, the ASA’s ruling prohibits further use of the activity in its current form.

ASA stated: “The CAP and BCAP guidelines state that advertising must not condone or encourage irresponsible driving.”

It said that this scene “is set on a highway with ordinary cars and drivers, and the audience can see it as a scene in real life”, and added: “We think that if these driving actions are imitated in real life, it will be Dangerous and irresponsible. A public highway.

"The drivers saw a smile, laughed, and were happy to surpass other cars in this way, and we think this condones the competitive driving style depicted.

"Because we believe that the driving behavior described in the advertisements is to condone competitive and unsafe driving behavior, we believe that these advertisements are irresponsible."

A week after the ASA’s ruling on Motorway was released, it rejected a complaint from the Scottish Automobile Trade Association (SMTA), which disputed Cazoo’s claim that the subscription vehicle it provided was not a “new car”.

It concluded that, in the context of the subscription model, the pre-registration status of the car provided by Cazoo is not important to consumers.
