According to Consumer Reports’ annual car and truck reliability rankings, truck shoppers looking for the most reliable pickups should consider Ford Ranger, Ram 1500, and Chevrolet and GMC heavy-duty trucks.

"Since its relaunch in 2019, Ranger has shown steady improvement. General Motors' heavy trucks have reported few issues since the 2020 redesign, and reliability continues to be above average," non-profit research, testing and consumer advocacy Said Steven Elek, an automotive data analyst who organizes Consumer Reports.

Although Toyota is known for its reliability, Tacoma's reliability is average, lagging behind Range and Honda Ridgeline.

According to Consumer Reports, the Jeep Gladiator, the brand's most reliable model last year, was below average in the latest report due to steering and suspension issues.

Toyota Tundra has been redesigned for 2022, so Consumer Reports cannot use any data from recent years to calculate the reliability of the forecast. Historically, it has been one of the most reliable half-ton pickup trucks.

According to Consumer Reports, although the Nissan Titan is still in the same generation, the sample of our survey respondents is insufficient to analyze and calculate the reliability of the forecast.

Most Chevrolet and GMC 1500 trucks use problem-prone 5.3-liter or 6.2-liter V8 engines. The larger 2500 heavy-duty pickup truck uses 6.6 liters of gasoline and 6.6 liters of diesel, and has fewer engine problems.

Ford's redesigned F-150 scored below average.

Both Ram 2500 and 1500 are rated as average reliability. However, "Consumer Reports" stated that Ram 1500 Classic is the older generation 1500, and its reliability is far below average. It is characterized by problems with brakes, exhaust systems, engines and power equipment.

For all cars, regardless of body type, Lexus has the highest reliability ranking among all automakers, followed by Mazda and Toyota. GM's Buick brand continues to be the most reliable domestic brand and the only American brand in the top ten.

However, five domestic brands from Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, Chrysler, and Ford topped the list in seven categories, and Consumer Reports described them as "extraordinarily strong performance."

Jake Fisher, senior director of automotive testing at Consumer Reports, said: “As new car prices are at record highs and dealers are short of vehicles in stock, it’s more important than ever to consider reliability when investing in new things.”

The 2021 Car Reliability Report is based on data collected from Consumer Reports members on their experience with more than 300,000 cars in the annual survey.
