Karachi: Police have arrested a Samsung employee and registered a case against him under Telegraph act and blasphemy of Sahaba, the companions of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The suspect Asghari Abbas Rizvi is accused of setting a blasphemous name for Samsung’s wifi device in Karachi’s Mobile Market in Saddar area of the metropolis.

Dozens of protesters on Friday destroyed Samsung billboards at the Mobile Market after they were led to believe that the company has introduced a QR code that somehow insults Islam.

Samsung said it has started investigation into the matter.

Samsung said it holds the religion of Islam in utmost respect and stands firm on it’s stance that the company has all religious sentiments and beliefs.

The report regarding Samsung introducing a blasphemous QR code turned out to be incorrect.
