GROTON — Police have deployed a new solar-powered traffic speed sign to help slow down drivers.

The department announced Friday that the Groton Police Traffic Unit’s solar powered radar display “is now up and operational.”

Police said “the radar is able to deploy for longer periods of time than our traditional traffic trailer, which was battery operated.”

The unit is currently positioned on Groton Long Point Road, but it will be moved to different locations around town based on the results of speed studies and citizen feedback, police said.

Residents with questions or concerns can contact the Traffic Unit at traffic@groton-ct.gov or 860-441-7183.
