In 2021, the concept car not only shows how we will use transportation in the future, but also shows the new way our cars interact with us. Electric vehicles (EV) are about to become ubiquitous, but something tells us that automakers have not lost their sense of humor (see Article 2). This is a list of our favorite future cars we saw this year:
It may look like a four-door shooting brake from another galaxy, but the Grand Sphere is a sneak peek at Audi's future flagship electric sedan. It has a projector instead of an infotainment or driver display, and a lounge-style interior with a glass roof. More realistically, it is powered by a 120kWh battery (estimated cruising range of 300 kilometers) and a pair of electric motors installed front and rear. The total output power is 720PS and 960Nm.
In the late 1980s, Time magazine called the contaminated earth "Planet of the Year" on the cover. This was also the time when Hyundai launched the Grandeur as its flagship sedan, as a competitor to Japanese and American sedans at the time. Nearly 35 years later, sustainability and emission reduction have become the top priorities of the government and automakers, and Hyundai has resurrected the Grandeur as part of its Heritage Series concept car's zero-emission electric car. This is a retro concept that will not appear out of place in the "Back to the Future" movie, with pixel LED headlights and taillights, and wheels with wire mesh. Inside, it uses modern technologies such as a panoramic infotainment display and an 18-speaker sound system, as well as burgundy velvet and nappa leather interiors, as well as design cues from a modern modern flagship store in 1986.
Kia launched the EV9 concept car as the opening ceremony of the upcoming full-size three-row family electric SUV. It uses a stylish design, the interior is made of recycled marine waste, and the front and third rows of seats can be rotated to adapt to different seating modes. The maximum rated 350kW DC fast charge, the battery life is 480 kilometers, and the charging time is half an hour. The electric motors on the front and rear axles are SUV AWD, and their total output power is 585PS and 740Nm.
If the headlights of the Grandeur concept car cannot be used to illuminate the road at night, check out the retro lighting elements on ID.Life, which debuted at this year's Munich Motor Show. This is a super large hatchback, equipped with an electric power system, a cruising range of up to 400 kilometers, powered by a 234PS electric motor. Volkswagen plans to place it below ID.3 at a price of 20,000 Euros (about 1.7 million rupees) when the production version is sold on the global market in 2025.
The electric Maybach EQS was unveiled in September, and it heralds the luxury Mercedes electric SUV that will be launched next year. On the outside, it has a huge front grille and huge 24-inch chrome wheels. The interior is simple, with a full-width display on the dashboard and a digital driver display behind the yoke-shaped steering wheel. Mercedes estimates a cruising range of 600 kilometers, and the EQS SUV may share the car's 330PS rear-wheel drive and 500PS AWD power system. It was unveiled alongside the preview of the EQG concept of the electric G-class SUV.
MG Cyberster became an electric roadster in early 2021. It drew inspiration from typical British sports cars, especially the MGB two-seater roadster sold by Morris Garages between 1962 and 1980. Unlike roadsters that consume a lot of fuel, Cyberster's electric power system can travel 800 kilometers, with a speed of 0-100 kilometers per hour in less than three seconds!
