Will the new Spider-Man movie take home for Marvel fans?

Tom Holland is the Spider-Man of Columbia Pictures' Spider-Man: ?? Far from home.

After months of anticipation, the second trailer of "Spider-Man: No Way To Go" was released last month, and fans can finally watch the latest Marvel movie up close. If you were one of the millions anxiously waiting for the trailer to go live that night, or if you watched the fan reaction video after the fact, you might feel that although fans are excited about this new movie, many fan reactions seem mixed. Marvel fans can agree that although the trailer looks epic, everyone seems to be waiting for it to reveal something very specific: confirming the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

With the multiverse in this upcoming movie now confirmed and true, and the return of the villains in Maguire and Garfield movies, this has sparked some speculations about whether Spider-Man in these other universes can also return. The second trailer did raise the question of whether we can expect to see Spider-Man in the past, at least this is what fans hoped for.

Although I am very happy to see this movie, and like any fan, want to see all three Spider-Man appear together on the big screen, I am still worried that it will all be arranged sideways. If Toby and Andrew do cameo, fans will lose it. But what if they don’t? What if this is just the return of the villains of the past, nothing more? The fans will still lose it, but I'm not afraid in the best way.

Fandom has existed for many years, but they did not become mainstream until the 2010s, roughly the same time as the Marvel Cinematic Universe took off. Since then, the fan base has been rising. Now, people like their favorite fandom more than ever. They wear cosplay and nerd T-shirts to the opening party and head to the theater. Becoming a fan is really a wonderful time. However, fan culture also has an ugly side, which cannot be ignored. We need to open the curtain a bit and take a closer look.

Speaking of fan dissatisfaction and backfire, can you still call it that way?

In May 2019, when the last two episodes of the final season of Game of Thrones aired, fans were so angry with what they got that more than 1.7 million people signed a petition requesting a remake of Season 8 .

When "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" was released in 2017, it was criticized for many different reasons. One of the problems with this movie is that when Rey's true pedigree was revealed, leading to the overthrow of fan theories accumulated over the years. As a result, fans began to post negative reviews and began petitioning Disney to remove the film from the official canon.

Some fans seem to have another problem with this film, which is related to the addition and casting of more women and people of color. Some "fans" even mercilessly harassed Kelly Marie Tran, who played Rose Tyco in the movie, so much that she eventually quit social media altogether.

With the release of the first "Sonic the Hedgehog" trailer, how can we forget the influence of fan power? When they saw the Sega character in CGI for the first time, fans were in an uproar online, mainly due to the human-like teeth that the creator decided to give him. With such negative feedback, the film creators responded to the strong protest from fans, saying that their concerns have been heard and they will reconsider reconsidering Sonic's appearance. They did exactly that, and the fans were more satisfied with the result.

Fan feedback is important. They brought the hype, they entertained there, and hope to realize some of their fan wishes. The amazing thing about fandom is the sense of community they provide. They provide a space that can be accepted by like-minded people, and you can share your fan theories and opinions about your favorite fandom without any worries.

But do fans react to fan disappointment in the best way? Not always, in some cases, like Kelly Marie Tran, they are very disgusting.

Maybe you think I worry too much about "Spider-Man: Homeless", but I think based on these past situations, if the fan theory doesn't come true, protest seems inevitable. The power of fans is real, as is the fear of fan rejection. In some cases, fan creative control is also very real. There was a time when creators never listened to the concerns raised by fans, and in some cases today, they still haven't. It is undeniable that more and more creators are now listening to the opinions of fans, and in some cases, it has begun to directly affect the fan circle.

To quote the great Uncle Ben, “the greater the power, the greater the responsibility”, but are we as fans responsible for this power, or are we just using it in a way that destroys people when we don’t get what we want? Have we reached the point where fans can take things too far?

This is something we need to remember as fans: they are also fans. They will try to be loyal to their fans, but they will also write down their explanations of things. This is the charm of fans! We have been given multiple universes, worlds and stories. If it were not for creators with different visions, we would never be lucky enough to have three different Spider-Man in three different universes. If we just stick to Toby's version, we will never be favored by Andrew Garfield or Tom Holland.

I am a fan like everyone else. I can't restrain my excitement about "Spider-Man: Nowhere To Go". If I say that I don’t want our meme dreams to come true, or that our three Spider-Mans unite in this final movie, then I’m lying. But I will not hold my breath. Because although I am a big fan of Marvel, the reality is that we have not got any promises.

So, I call on all Marvel fans to watch this movie. Criticize it, form opinions, and talk endlessly. But for everything about Marvel, if you call yourself a fan, then become a fan. Respect, kindness, cry if you must (I know I might), but do it all in class.
